Create Sections & Places
Sections and places define where participants are assigned within an activity. This is the setup step that prepares your activity for assignments.
For example, you might create:
- Sections for tables, rooms, or roles
- Places within those sections (such as Table 1 or Room A)
- Spots within each place (such as available seats or positions)
How Sections, Places, and Spots Work
- Section – a collection of places (e.g. Dinner Tables)
- Place – an individual location or unit (e.g. Table 1)
- Spots – the number of participants allowed in each place
Each participant is assigned to one spot within a place.
Create a Section
- Open your program
- Go to the Activities tab
- Select an activity
- Open the Assign tab
- If no section exists, follow the setup prompts
- Click New Section
- Enter a name for the section
- Click Create
Sections organize your places into a logical structure.
Create Places
Once a section is created, you can add places.
- Select your section
- Click Add Place
- Enter a name (e.g. Table 1, Room A)
- Set the number of spots
- Click Create
Repeat this process to create all necessary places.
Define Spots
Spots determine how many participants can be assigned to each place.
- Use spots for seats, positions, or capacity
- Spots are typically based on a numeric field
For example:
- Table 1 – 8 spots
- Carpool A – 4 spots
- Team Lead – 1 spot
Customize Naming
You can rename elements to match your program:
- People (e.g. Guests, Participants)
- Places (e.g. Tables, Rooms, Teams)
- Spots (e.g. Seats, Positions)
This helps align the system with your terminology.
Tips for Setup
- Plan your sections before creating places
- Use clear and consistent naming
- Set realistic spot limits based on capacity
- Create enough places to accommodate all participants
